Depuis l'enfance Denis Olivier a été plongé dans le monde de l'art et de la photographie.
Une enfance baignée d'une lumière rouge et marquée par le "parfum" des produits chimiques du laboratoire photo permanent dans la maison de ses parents. Son entourage
lui fait découvrir nombreuses expositions et techniques d'expression qui l'emmèneront d'abord vers le graphisme et la peinture. Après quelques détours scientifiques, c'est à
l'école des Beaux-Arts de Poitiers qu'il trouve dans l'infographie, la programmation et les images de synthèse un nouveau et fascinant moyen d'expression.
C'est Alain Fleig qui va initier Denis Olivier à la photographie d'art mais aussi à la technique, notamment de laboratoire.
Puis arrive une première exposition personnelle et un stage de formation avec Philippe Salaün, le développeur argentique de renom.
Alors encore étudiant, les premiers travaux de commandes, articles de presse et expositions tombent. En 1995 il commence à travailler dans l'architecture puis la conception de sites Internet.
Il continue ensuite en faisant du graphisme et de la direction artistique pour différents projets digitaux.
Puis revient à la photographie en 2005, en testant la prise de vue de paysages dans l'infra-rouge, découvrant dès lors les longues pauses.
L'apparition de la photographie numérique lui ouvre de nouveaux horizons en lui permettant de travailler plus rapidement et
de laisser libre court à ses expériences digitales. Néanmoins, son attrait pour l'argentique lui permet de photographier avec un rapport au temps différent,
développant depuis toujours personnellement ses propres films.
Le travail proposé par les photographies de Denis Olivier se déroule sous le signe du temps : un temps suspendu, un temps qui passe.
Il apprécie cet étirement du temps qui n'est plus à l'échelle de la vie humaine. L'univers qu'il nous propose, ainsi recréé, devient étrangement autre, mystérieux, romantique, silencieux, comme un vide distendu qui
nous enseigne le sens du détail. Le silence emplit cet univers d'une transparence humaine permettant au visiteur de développer sa propre expérience perceptive.
Il guette, patiemment, des formes recherchées, des présences oubliées là, sans doute depuis très longtemps, immuables, dans ce même silence et sous ces mêmes ciels tumultueux. Le choix de paysages
dépouillés fait vivre de façon intense les moindres détails, les moindres traces, comme autant de signatures oubliées. La composition des éléments crée des espaces abstraits, les droites et les courbes
s'opposent et se répondent, créant des oeuvres presque totalement graphiques.
Par la rigueur de sa prise de vue, le soin et la minutie apportés à la construction de ses photographies, Denis Olivier obtient des "tableaux" poussant à la méditation, à un véritable voyage dans un temps suspendu.
